Charles and Ray Eames, limited edition rosewood LCW, 1946.
The Lounge Chair Wood (LCW) is considered to be the Eamesโ finest design. The marriage of progressive technology, form and functionality combine to create one of the most important modern seating design.
The LCW was launched in 1946 after much development by the Eames in the three-dimensional moulding of plywood. The chair provides comfort, economy of structure and is highly sculptural.
Lounge Chair Wood has been in continuous production since inception and is found in many museum collections, including the V&A and MOMA.
In 1996 Herman Miller USA marked the 50th anniversary by producing a limited edition of 500 chairs utilising the remaining stock of Brazilian rosewood discovered at their factory. The edition sold out immediately and each chair is numbered and marked with a plaque.
