Wallace Sewell is commemorating the centenary of the Bauhaus with the launch of a collection based on the re-edition of the Prellerdecke, a blanket designed by Gunta Stölzl, who became the first and only female master at the college. The bedspread was designed for the student dormitories in the Prellerhaus, Bauhaus Dessau.

Despite more than 100 pieces having been produced in 1926, none of the originals survived. To recreate the iconic blanket, Wallace Sewell worked in collaboration with Monika Stadler, Stölzl’s daughter, referencing archive photography and drawings. 

The design duo studied at Central St Martins in the 1980s, where their course paralleled the principles and teachings of the Bauhaus, which has remained an underpinning factor within their creative design process.
